General Conference with little ones can be fun yet stressful if you aren’t prepared, so to make sure everyone is happy we try to have items prepped and ready to go to make it go as smooth as possible!
Roll of Art Paper
We have used the fun Ikea art paper (but if you don’t live near Ikea you can find paper rolls on Amazon, click here – affiliate) for the last several conferences and the kids love it!
Step 1: Roll it out. Get some washable paint or crayon’s and let them sit at the table while they listen to the talks.
Step 2: Decorate! I decorated it during Saturday conference so it’s ready to go for them to paint and have fun with on Sunday morning. With older children, you may not need as much preparation. Let them use their imaginations.
Step 3: Have some extra set aside. I normally have a few blank pieces for their special master pieces too!
Ideas For General Conference:
Have them paint or draw what the speaker is talking about such as Temples, Missions, Missionaries, Prayer, Scriptures etc.
Prophet Matching Game
Another fun one I had saved from last year was Prophet Matching game. You can find a colored version here (print out 2) and a black and white version here (large and small card variations available).
Dollar Store Busy Buckets
The night before I get some goodies together from the dollar store.
They have foam crafts normally out this time of year so I get it a few of those for them to work on as well. Anything to help keep quiet and entertained.
I use cleaning organizers to separate their items. This makes it nice when I put them away, I sort out the craft items and just pull it back out in six months and refill it!
Inside I add:
- Small Puzzles
- Matching Games
- Paper to doodle on
- Crayons
- Playdoh
- Stickers
- Temple, Prophet and More coloring pages found free online
I love capturing moments from our weekend to look back on and see what they liked best. Don’t forget to capture your moments from conference and hashtag #capturingmotherhood
Church Books
Lastly I offer church books for them to look at while they might be tired and want to rest with us, just remember these little ones are listening! Another thing you could do is watch animated scripture movies or music from Living Scriptures. They have a streaming service now – find out more here.
