The Toddler years are a lot of fun, but they are also can be one messy storm after another and it seems like a Clean House is never in sight. I do not claim to be an expert, but coming up on my third child to hit the toddler years, I can only claim experience! There are a couple things I have learned along the way that help me weather this storm…
Toddlers Love and NEED To Make Messes
Toddlers are messy! They love to dump
Pour and splash any liquid they touch…they just love to get wet!
Squish and rub any goo they get their hands on.
Eat in unusual (to me) places.
They leave my house looking like this on a daily basis and this is minor compared to the other two since there was 2 of them at the same time…
Toddlers Need Messes, BUT They Need To Learn How To Clean Them, Too
I have learned that the messes are not just messes to them, but it is part of their learning processes and the way they figure out how things work. And even though they are learning through their messes, it does not mean they can’t learn how to clean them up at the same time. This is a great age to start teaching them how to take care of things and the best part…they think it is fun!
How do we deal with epic messes?
We create opportunities for her to play with water in a controlled environment. A couple pans on the table with some cups with a small amount of water = a whole lot of fun. It gets her pouring curiosity and water love out of her system. Plus, she gets to slide towels on the floor to clean up any spilled water.
We create opportunities for her to squish and play in a contained spot, like our Edible Finger Paint.
And most important we have tools available to help her clean up all the other messes. We let her use our Eureka SuctionSeal 2.0 vacuum to clean up her dumping messes. It’s Air Speed technology uses a wide tube of air with minimal bends and twists that allows air to move freely across a shorter and more direct path, which means the suction is a lot stronger and does not pull the vacuum over on top of her like our other vacuums have.
And for everything else, this Eureka vacuum helps clean it up in a snap! I am quickly becoming a huge fan. Our first vacuum in our marriage was a Eureka vacuum and it lasted 7 years, so we already know they have a good reputation. What’s better is that this vacuum is currently on Rollback at Walmart from $148.88 to $129 just in time for Christmas time!
A few things that I am loving about this particular vacuum is the SuctionSeal. The plates that raise and lower against the surface maintaining suction and seal without scattering debris, which means I can move from my carpet to my kitchen floor without missing a beat. The kitchen broom has found a new home in the garage and the kiddos are no longer asking for help to sweep up the dirt piles!
I also love that ALL my kiddos can use this vacuum and the front still stays down, even the toddler. This is the first vacuum we have come across that my oldest daughter hasn’t had to lift and push at the same time. She can use it the same way I do AND so can my youngest!
And one unexpected extra joy that comes from this vacuum, the kids love how the cord winds up by itself. This also means no extra cord to trip over while using it…loosen and tighten as needed. My kiddos have never been so excited to have their turn to use the vacuum!
And as an added bonus, a video. I love this one. I can totally relate!
