The most common question in everyday conversation is “What do you do?” Obviously everyone’s answer is different but often times I hear “Just a mom.” This has to seriously be the worst answer ever, it drives me crazy.
Being a mom is the hardest job on the planet and no one is ever “Just a Mom.” I don’t know about you but I am a teacher, chef, cleaning lady, chauffer, seamstress, blogger, entrepreneur, organizer, and a nurse and really this list could keep on going! I don’t think any of those things mean “Just a Mom.”
I think part of this mentality is woman don’t think that being a mom is a valuable job title because they don’t bring home a pay check. I think being a mom is the most valuable job of all and it is time we started acting like it!!!
A long time ago I remember my mom talking to one of her friends about how being a mom is a job and you will be more successful at it if you treat it that way. What she meant and lived is she got up everyday at the same time and got ready for her day. Dressed, make up and hair done just like if she worked out of the home. (Getting dressed in yoga pants doesn’t count!) I am sure she doesn’t even remember this but it has stuck with me and I have tried to live it in my own life. It shows my children and my husband that I value them and think they are important enough to put my best foot forward!
I’m not saying I don’t occasionally have a grunge day but I am way more productive and happier if I take care of myself. I know so many people who get their kids dressed and hair done everyday but never think to do the same for themselves. Why do you value and take care of your children more than yourself?
I challenge you to do these few simple things everyday to show yourself that you are more than “Just a Mom.”
- Get up everyday at least a half an hour before your kids and shower.
- Put real clothes on, a little make up (just mascara makes a world of difference),and do your hair.
- Want to live on the wild side add some earrings and a necklace!
A few years ago I was introduced to the Dressing Your Truth® program and it has really helped me honor myself and made living this principle even easier! Check it out HERE and I promise you won’t be disappointed! It has been invaluable to helping me be the best mom and wife I can be!!
