Capturing children can seem near impossible or like a workout, maybe that’s why I love it so much, anyway capturing children you must know a few things when getting started.
Here’s my top three tips for today!
#1. GET DOWN
Get down on their level and have fun. Play with them, talk to them and ask them what their favorite character is? Are they in school, ask them what the teachers name is and get personal. Build some trust and a relationship so they trust what you are doing behind the lens isn’t scary or creepy.
#2 LET THEM SEE
Let them click the button. Let the see what they took and whats going on behind the lens. It works EVERY TIME. Kids love the sound my camera makes and they get excited like they have accomplished something when they get to see the photo they took.
#3 BRING A SEAT
Bring a small stool or chair for them to sit on. They will be excited to have their “own” spot. Don’t just use it as a chair have them pose on it in different ways. Have fun, laugh and don’t get stressed. You stress they stress. Enjoy the sessions and if all else fails whip out some smarties candies….(they won’t ruin the white shirt and melt on their hands for later awesome chocolate shots)
Finally
Enjoy the memories you are capturing, they are only little for so long.
