The holiday’s are busy times for us full of family parties and other opportunities for entertaining friends and guests. I will be the first to admit that I do not always have the time and energy to whip up some yummy holiday recipes to have ready for our many holiday parties and so this year I have been turning to my new friend…these yummy Nestle Drumstick Peppermint Cones, 8 ct. (NEW). Can we say yum?!?!
“Enjoy the carefree summer taste of NÉSTLE® DRUMSTICK® sundae cones with a wintry bite of peppermint.”
You see, ice cream cones are big hits at any family get-together. See below…everyone is happy (and cute)! Having an easy, stress free treat allows everyone to sit still for few minutes in one space, enjoy a yummy treat and talk. It is one of the few times I get to catch up with the teenagers. It’s awesome!
Knowing this fact and knowing that the new Peppermint flavor is out, I recently bought a few boxes in the Freezer section at Walmart to bring to a family party on what was a “too busy to make anything” kind of weekend for me.
Unfortunately, 2 of my 3 kiddos ended up sick. So, we had to stay home and have our own little party. These Peppermint Drumstick Cones helped them not feel so bad about missing out on all the fun.
But that still left me with an additional two boxes and an itch to share them. So once everyone was healthy, we made some easy scrap tissue paper cards and instead of entertaining in our home, we went out caroling and sharing our treat. My daughter loved making these cards. They were super simple and quick to put together.
Easy Scrap Paper Christmas Card
What you need:
- Green tissue paper – we happened to have 2 different colors
- Brown paper or paper bag (only a small piece is needed)
- Scissors (optional)
- Paper (for the card)
- Pencil
- Ruler or something with a straight edge to trace a straight line
- Watered down white glue – 3 parts water/1 part glue
- Foam paint brush or you can use fingers
- Marker or pen
Directions:
Step 1: Prep your glue. It’s going to be a very thin version of white glue. We had plenty left over when we mixed 1 T white glue with 3 T water.
Step 2: Cut up or tear the tissue paper into small sized pieces.
Step 3: Create the outline of your tree by drawing a large triangle on your folded sheet of paper. We ended up covering most of the pencil up with the tissue paper.
Step 4: Apply a light layer of glue to the bottom of the triangle and move up once you have covered the space with tissue paper. The paper will stick easily and the glue will dry fast, so doing one layer at a time was easiest. Don’t worry if your paper bunches up or over laps. We think it looks better overlapping.
Step 5: Once the entire space inside the triangle is covered let it dry and then add a small square of brown for the tree stump. We took our piece from an old art project.
Step 6: Write Merry Christmas on the inside and any other message, if you want. I had to write it out on a separate piece of paper for my 7 year old to copy from.
Step 7: Deliver to friends with treats and have fun! (See our video on Instagram here if you do not see it below)
Just because this holiday season is busy (and you may get sick) it does not mean you have to miss out on entertaining. It just takes a little creativity and some Drumstick ice cream cones!
What is your favorite Holiday Treat?
These look so delicious! And when paired with an adorable card like that you can’t go wrong! #client
