When I started my site, I wanted it to be a place to help motivate me and possibly inspire others to be their best selves with and for their kiddos. Part of that “be your best self” journey for me has been working on my own personal fitness journey. One of the ways that really helped me do this has been by hosting the Slim Down For Summer Fitness Challenges. This was an 8 week challenge right before summer started focused on motivation to build healthy habits and not necessarily lbs or inches lost. There would be a weekly check-in with a different challenge/goal each week. The challenge was an easy one in addition to the other basic goals to keep things interesting.
Why am I telling you all about this?
I typically do the challenge every other year and THIS would be the year to begin. If I was doing it right it, we would have started on April 1st. And it is killing me that I have not started it again, but I just can’t host it this year. It takes a lot of time to host and plan the challenges. Crazy, I know! I didn’t think it would be so hard, but because of my last minute tendencies I discovered I was spending my little time to workout on updating the challenge and motivating others. It was a love/hate relationship. Those connections and that “high” I would get from all the positivity and motivation that came from all the participants was completely worth it and is why it is so tempting for me to do it again. That was my favorite part!
An Alternative Way
April 1st has come and gone and this challenge is still on my brain. I have seen a few people clicking on the invite posts to see if it will be happening again…great and helpful reminders of what I should be doing. Thank you very much! 😉 If you have been watching me this past year I have been trying to find my fitness groove again. I did a little of it publicly last year on Instagram and Facebook during the summer and of course had my reveal on the site after 8 weeks and loosing 20 lbs. But then I went quiet and tried to do it on my own and have not been doing as well as I hoped.
I have come to realize over the years that I love accountability, but I am weak and as much as I would like to say I can do this on my own, I can’t. I need help. I need to know or at least think that someone else is watching to keep me going. So I am taking this challenge public and creating the Slim Down For Summer Self-Fitness Challenge 2015
What is the Slim Down For Summer SELF Fitness Challenge?
It’s pretty much the same thing as the 2013 and the 2011 Fitness Challenges, but challenging yourself! I will be using the tracking sheets I made previously as a way to help me keep track. Each week you will have a chance to add a “goal” to your sheet to keep things interesting. Feel free to follow along with the previous years’ challenges or create your own. I have even included an invite if you want to copy and paste it for friends.
When is Check-in?
Yes, I will be checking in every week via instagram and maybe Facebook if more friends are there on Wednesday. If you would like to check-in as well make sure you use #SlimDownForSummerFitnessChallenge in your post and/or tag @funonadime so we can cheer each other on. Note: I know the hashtag seems long, but once you do it once it will automatically show up the next time you start typing it.
Keep it real! Post/share what is keeping you motivated. You don’t have to do a full body shot, but boy have I learned that keeps me motivated! Do what will help you best, but let me see you over there.
Prizes
Everyone loves a prize! Pick a realistic goal that you would like to achieve from this challenge and prize you would love to give yourself if you meet it. Realistic goals should not be based on lbs or inches lost. Base it off your daily points achieved or total points by the end, etc. Be nice to yourself, but make sure it is still a challenge. 😉
Get Started
Below are the invites for the challenge, the printable check sheets and the weekly challenges we did before. They will say “Check-in” in the titles, but the challenge is listed in that post. I hope you find some added motivation from this and some fun along the way. Feel free to comment and make sure to check-in on Instagram or Facebook (any Twitter lovers?).
Week 1 : Bonus Challenge after the point review
We can still motive each other but this year it’s just in a different way!
