Have your kids started school? Mine start on Monday and I am scrambling around like a mad woman planning and getting ready! I am normally done by now but this summer was a busy one. Nothing like waiting till the last minute!
I don’t know about your house but I am constantly changing and adapting our schedules and routines. Something works great for awhile and then it doesn’t any more. Anyway, that is what is happening with our school schedule right now. With two toddler/preschool age kids I need a plan or no one is going to get anything done this year.
I made this handy dandy poster to help us stay organized so everyone will know where to go when. I am doing stations this year to kind of mix things up a little. The most important station of all is my littles that need some direction. During each 20 minute period I have a big kid in charge of doing a school activity with my toddler/preschooler. We made a master list of activities they could do and of course the first request from all of them was play dough.
I don’t know what it is about play dough but kids of every age love it and it entertains them all! I have tried a lot of recipes for play dough over the years but I always come back to the same one. Many moons ago I taught preschool at an elementary school and I would make this play dough at the beginning of every month for the kids to play with. I would make it a different color and scent it to match the season. It never got dry and crumbly and stayed perfect all month. Trust me it got used a lot!!! So here is my favorite recipe for you to try…….
Homemade Play Dough
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 3 cups water
- 1 1/2 cups salt
- 6 T. vegetable oil
- 6 t. cream of tarter
- food coloring (add to water)
- essential oil for added scent (optional)
Mix all ingredients together. Heat over medium heat stirring continuously until dough forms a ball and pulls away from sides. Lay on wax paper to cool and store in an air tight container. Have Fun!
