Do you make New Year Resolutions? I stopped making New Year resolutions years ago and started making goals. I like the idea of trying to accomplish something instead of trying to change something. Resolutions always seem like something you want to change about your self ie: lose weight, eat better etc. Kinda generic so I like making goals ie: read one book a month, save 1000 dollars etc. Goals can be achieved and can be checked off when accomplished!! I love check marks!
We spend one day in January for family night and we talk and dream about our family goals and individual goals for the year. It is always such a fun night and we all leave feeling so excited for the year ahead. We always decorate pieces of paper with everything written down and then I tuck them away to look at next year to see if we accomplish this. SUCH A DUMB IDEA since by March I don’t even remember what they wanted to accomplish.
This year I got a little bit smarter and we made a poster for the wall with everyone’s goals on it. I had these big dreams of getting my Cricut out and making it fancy but then reality hit and I settled for some colored Sharpies and a bowl to trace circles.
Each person got a circle to have their goals recorded and then family goals are written around the outside. Some of my kids have a hard time thinking outside the box and coming up with things they want to do so I give them the challenge to have one school goal, one church goal, and one anything goal.
Some of them can be quite creative like my 6 year old who wants to learn to balance a ball on her finger. Love that kid she has quite the imagination!
What are some of the fun goals your family makes? Do you display them?
