What it looks like:
“Do you know of a child that has trouble sitting still or always on their knees or standing when they should be sitting to do classwork? Maybe you know of a child that is distracted by sounds no one else notices or a child that likes to slam into walls or falls on the floor the list can go on…..”
Did you know:
It’s not always bad behavior? There are ways to help kiddos who need a little extra love and redirection. A lot of children have sensory sensitivities and especially kids with special needs.
Here’s a few ideas:
- Change their environment for a few moments to help them refocus.
- Take them outside for a walk to get fresh air.
- Give them something with texture to hold to manipulate like small amounts of playdoh or a few pipe cleaners to entertain “keep their hands busy”, keep it simple.
- Discovery bottles aka small bottles filled with water sealed tightly, fill with colorful Poms, glitter and beads etc.
