What do you get when you put a potato gun and light sticks together? A lot of fun and a homemade meteor shower or even a firework show!
Recently my brother and his wife shared with us a fun thing they did while helping out at Girls Camp (a church camp) AND let me tell you, it was so much fun!
This was our main evening entertainment for the 4th of July and everyone loved it! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom to watch it in action.
What You Need:
- Potato gun
- Light sticks (we used close to 20)
- Potatoes
- Large/long stick or something similar to push the potato down in to the gun
- Hairspray or whatever else is needed to ignite your potato gun
- Large open grassy area to shoot over
- A group of energized kiddos to pick up all the light sticks for you!
Directions:
Step 1: Load your potato gun like you normally would. In our case, we loaded a chunk of potato not the entire potato!
Step 2: Use the stick to push the potato down to the bottom. And a little extra advice from my brother since I did not actually handle the potato gun during this fun… Just a note- for all of those not familiar with a potato gun: When you push the potato down, do not push it all the way to the bottom. Just push it about half way down…or leave enough room to get the glowsticks on top of it. If you push it all the way to the bottom, the potato will not have a seal in the pvc, and this means no boom or meteor shower.
Step 3: Add light sticks (the only time the kiddos were allowed near the potato gun!)
Step 4: Point your Potato Gun up in the air over a large open field and shoot! It is so fun to watch them fall!

I love hearing the kiddos squeal and even the parents got a good kick out of it!
This is awesome. I would love for you to come link up at Artsy Play Wednesday.

Thanks! I’ll add that note above!
