I have been casually researching the cost of braces and other alternatives for a couple of years knowing eventually that I would like to do something about my teeth. So I thought I would share a little of my findings with you. Yes, I had my braces removed over 15 years ago back when you got a nice fun colored metal retainer that left you talking with a lisp. My teeth looked great for 10 years and and then came pregnancy and all the lovely side affects that come with it. It did a number on my teeth (2 root canals), which because of the work done no longer allowed my retainer to fit properly and my teeth slowly began to shift. I have since been able to get a replacement retainer, but I did not do it quick enough and my teeth are not like they used to be.:-( My overbite is coming back, my bottom teeth are getting cramped again and my top 2 teeth are moving forward (yikes!). I believe my overall health of my body includes my oral health (and my feelings about my health) and thus my research…
I have been intrigued by Invisalign ever since I found out that it costs the same amount as braces and just as affective. Because do I really want to go through braces and look like I am a teenager again or would I rather fix my teeth without the added hardware? One of these is a little lot more tempting then the other!;-)
How Long Does the Treatment Take?: It varies depending on the case, but the average time 1 year.
Types of Cases Invisalign can treat: (I did not know they could do all of these!)
- Severe misalignment
- Overly crowded teeth
- Widely spaced teeth
- Crossbite
- Overbite
- Underbite
In summary, since Invisalign is covered by most orthodontic plans, I can hope we have a good one in a few years when we are completely done with school. But since I have never had dental/orthodontic insurance before, it is nice to know that it is just as affordable as braces and that I do not have to suffer the pain and awkwardness of metal in my mouth. Right now Invisalign is looking pretty good!
This is a sponsored post from Invisalign. All opinions are 100% mine and since I was already doing the research I thought I would share my findings.
Did you get an estimate? I’m wondering how much they run…
From looking around, nobody will give you a specific estimate online. But, I did find it listed somewhere that the average cost is around $5000 (can be between $3,000 and $8,000..the higher end for the more complicated issues). My sister’s braces right now are just under $5k for almost a 2 year treatment. So the pricing is similar for both. We are moving soon and so I will get one once we move and I do not have to search for a new provider. =) I did find on the the Invisalign site that they actually recommend you get a second opinion/estimate from a 2nd provider if you are not satisfied with the first as pricing can vary from office to office and case by case.
