I love baking in the kitchen with my kids but to be honest cut out sugar cookies are my least favorite cookie to make. They are such a mess!! Flour every where!
That being said I could never not make them. Some of my favorite memories as a kid are decorating Christmas cookies around the kitchen table with all of my family.
There are a million recipes for sugar cookies out there some are thin and crunchy, some you have to prepare ahead of time and refrigerate, some are thick and soft and everything in between. But I don’t think it matters what kind of cookie you especially to your kids as long as you do it with them! They would be happy with sugar cookies out of roll in a pinch. That being said I have found the best sugar cookie ever!! They are thick and soft and delicious without any frosting but really what is the fun in that! I found the recipe over on Deals To Meals if you haven’t been there you should totally check it out. Lots of yummy food:)
On the Deals to Meals recipe she uses butter flavoring in her frosting but I prefer vanilla extract.
Tips
- For easy clean up, which everyone wants I use plastic knives and Styrofoam bowls so that when we are done icing the cookies we can just throw everything away. Washing bowls full of butter cream frosting is a pain!
- If you have a toddler who likes to lick the frosting right off the knife give them a plate with a cookie or too and a couple blobs of different frosting and let them have special cookies that no one else will eat;) I love my two year old but I definitely don’t want to eat the cookie he decorated!! Putting them in their high chair will help keep them out of everyone else’s cookies too!
All that is left now that you have the yummiest cookies ever is to frost and make some fun memories with your family and friends!
