“Need more than just a Band-Aid? Sonoran Health and Emergency Center is open 24/7. We understand emergencies happen. We are here to care for you. www.JCL.com/sonoran #JCLSonoran”
We have moved quite a bit in our first 10 years of marriage and with 3 children we quickly learn where the best places are to take our children in an Emergency. I recently had the opportunity to tour the John C. Lincoln Sonoran Health and Emergency Center and I am blown away by all the thought and detail that went into the facility. Here are the facts you should know!
Location
This hospital is located off the I-17 just north of the 303 Junction. I used to work out in Anthem and always wondered where everyone who lived there would go for a medical emergency. The closest hospital was a bit of a drive. Now all those communities have somewhere to go when they need help fast. BUT not only is it close for them, but taking the 303, it’s actually one of the closer ER’s that I like.
Creating a Great Patient Experience
Throughout the construction process, the builders took input from experienced nurses on the design. What does that mean? No waiting rooms, patient rooms designed with the patient’s privacy and comfort in mind yet are still functional, a fantastic nurses station that keeps the halls quiet and so many other little things that add up to making an unplanned trip to the ER a lot better.
No Waiting Rooms
Seriously! It sounds too good to be true and I would not have believed it if I did not see the facility with my own eyes. They designed the ER with theme of an Oasis in the Desert, so instead of a waiting room you will find a Welcome Center where patients are immediately taken to a patient exam room to get checked out by a nurse and fill out paper work. Door to discharge is under 2 hours, which is unheard of for an ER.
Patient Privacy is a Priority
Their are no curtains dividing the rooms from the hallway, but actual sliding doors with features that allow medical staff to check on the patient without disturbing them and maintaining privacy. Housekeeping can also restock supply cupboards for each room from the hallway without ever stepping into the room thanks to double sided cupboards. Smart, right? AND another neat thing I heard while there in the halls was, silence! The nurses station is in the heart of the ER and because of high and extra thick glass, it keeps the noise away from the hallway.
Unique Patient Rooms
Each individual room has a visitor side and a medical staff side, keeping all the medical equipment on one side of the room as to not interfere with the patient and their visitors. And I was quite impressed with their pediatric rooms. Not only are the walls dotted with fun decor but they also have an assortment of electronics (ipad’s, game players, etc) to keep the young patients entertained.
Visitors Matter
They even put thought into the vending machines! There are still some sweet tooth/stress food options, but there are also REAL food options, like salads and sandwiches with protein, for those who are at the ER longer than expected and need real meal. So smart because who ever “plans” a trip to the ER and comes prepared with food for a long stay?
I could go on and on about all the little details that added up to this mama being super impressed! I keep telling all my friends all about it. Who ever talks about an ER that much?!?!
More Than An Emergency Center
Not only does this facility host an ER it also hosts a Health Center that is a satellite location of John C. Lincoln’s nationally-honored Breast Health and Research Center that also includes state-of-the-art medical imaging serving outpatients and emergency patients. When it comes to Women Health Checks, I always hear them discussed with a tone of cringe and fear. Again, this facility takes that challenge head on and warms it up by putting thought into everything from the wall and furniture colors/design to the personal touch and comfort of each individual that enters. Some of the special touches they have added:
- No more awkward paper robes, but nice fluffy cloth robes!
- Aroma therapy
- Spa like lighting and white noise
- Cookies
- and so much more!
I imagine a visit to their Health Center will leave me wondering whether I came for a spa treatment or to get a mammogram. Amazing! I am no longer cringing for when my time comes because I know where I will be going!
