Hi! I’m Liz from CrowleyZone – a personal blog about life and my adorable kids, mostly about my kids. I’m so excited that Michelle gave me this opportunity to be with you today. She is an awesome friend and makes amazing pizza.
I love being a mom. I have my good days and bad, but a snuggle with my kids usually makes it better. I have a pre-kindergartner and a baby. My Big Girl had me all to herself for almost 4 1/2 years before Baby Brother came along. She hasn’t acted out or resented Baby Brother for taking my attention away from her, but I missed just being able to play with her just the two of us. You always hear about Daddy/Daughter dates but never Mommy/Daughter Dates, so I decided to start a monthly tradition with my Big Girl.
So one Saturday we left Daddy at home with Baby Brother and went on our Mommy/Daughter Date. I asked my Big Girl what she wanted to do and first she wanted to go to a yard sale. We looked through all the toys and books and she fell in love with a book. And for a quarter it was hers. Next she chose to go to the library. Once we had a good sized pile of books we found some comfy chairs and read them all. We even had another little kid join our mini story time. Next it was time for dessert, so we went to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream. Once we got our ice cream we sat in the little kids chairs and ate our ice cream while we watched the birds outside. While we were watching the birds and enjoying our delicious treat my Big Girl and I just started talking about everything and anything. I asked her what her favorite color was, which she then named off every single color possible. I asked her what her favorite food was and she said “ice cream of course.” I then asked her who her best friend was, and for those of you who don’t know her she is a very social girl and has lots of friends. But I wasn’t quite prepared for her answer. She turned to me (which this whole time she had been staring at the birds) and looked me in the eye and said, “You Mommy, you’re my best friend.” Brought a tear to my eye, I gave her a big hug and told her I loved her. We finished our ice cream and then headed to our last destination, the park. We rode the slides together, played tag, and raced all over the playground. It was a wonderful Mommy/Daughter date, I look forward to the next.
Here’s my Big Girl getting ready to ride the twisty slide. Love her craziness…and her crazy hair.
I had a great time visiting with you. I hope sometime you’ll visit me at CrowleyZone. There, I share my everyday happenings and special moments with my kids, my husband, my family, my friends, and my crafting.
