I read an article a few weeks ago all about summer in the late 70’s. It was a fabulous article that really got my husband and I thinking. Our kids have no idea what it is like to have a completely unstructured day, to play outside all day, and drink out of the hose. We told our kids we use to do that and they all said “Ew gross!” So funny. It got us thinking about other things that we did and had as kids that our kids had never seen.
One of the things that we remember as kids was fighting over the prize in the bottom of the cereal box. My kids didn’t believe us that we use to get toys in our cereal.
Lucky for my kids General Mills recently brought back toys in cereal to celebrate the release of the new Minion movie! They have released 6 Minion figurines and a special 7th one that is only available at Walmart. They can be found in the following variety of cereals:
- Reese’s Puffs
- Trix
- Cocoa Puffs
- Golden Grahams
- Honey Nut Cheerios
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch
- Lucky Charms
We decided to have some summer fun and make a contest out of it to see who could find the Prehistoric Minion. Of course they want to try and collect them all!!
We went to our local Walmart and everyone got to pick their favorite one. Even my husband wanted in so we got him a box too! 7 XL family size boxes of cereal later we headed home to anxiously find out what they got.
When we were kids you use to have to wait until the toy fell into your bowl of cereal as you were pouring it in the morning for breakfast. Lucky for my kids it was in the box separate from the cereal so no waiting required.
The winner of our little contest was lucky Rory my 4 year old daughter.
Such a fun summer game, don’t you want to play? Who will win at your house???
