Summer is quickly approaching and before you know that means summer vacations and long car trips. My kids have been lucky enough that as long as they can remember we have had a t.v. in the car but we recently got a new van or bus as my kids like to say that holds 12 passengers and it did not come with a t.v. I have been coming up with fun things for them to do in preparation for our vacation in a couple of weeks and thought it would be fun to share them with all of you. I will be sharing this in a two part series. First, we will have activities for ages 2-6!
Ages 2-6
Band aids: what you might be asking?? Get a box of cool band aids (princess, super hero, Finding Nemo, etc.), give them to your child and let them have a blast. I guarantee this will entertain them for a minimum of a half an hour and much longer sometimes. It does make a little mess with the trash but trust me the entertainment factor wins out! For two year olds, I have opened the box and started opening them to make it a little bit easier on them. Sometimes they can be a little hard to get open for teeny tiny fingers.
Camera: This could be a toy camera or an old camera you do not use any more. Put batteries in it and let them have a blast. This works with older kids too!
File Folder Games: File folder games can be oodles of fun to make and to play. I put mine in a three ring binder and hold the pieces together with magnets, which makes it super car friendly.
Search and Find Bags: I made this one a few years ago and my kids still love it. Come to think of it I should make a tutorial, maybe that will be coming soon!!
Coloring book and colored pencils: Nothing is more fun than a new coloring book and crayons! I have found crayons are not so user friendly in the car because if they drop they can melt and markers are just messy so colored pencils are our car coloring choice. I made my kids lap desks a few Christmas’ ago that are perfect for car trips. I see another tutorial in my future!! They make coloring and playing games so much easier in the car.
Check back tomorrow for more activities for ages 7-12!
I would love to hear any ideas you have to keep your little ones entertained in the car!
