Hope you enjoyed the first round of our summer boredom busters for the car; now to move on to the big kids. I think they can be harder to entertain because they are more vocal about their boredom and they typically don’t take naps anymore. Man, naps sure make car travel fly. If only I could nap while traveling. Fat chance of that happening with 6 kids in the car. HAHA
Anyway on to our 7-12 year olds! There are endless activities for big kids and I would love to hear your ideas, so please leave me a comment and share away!!!
Ages 7-12
Books: Most kids are readers at this age so a new book can be fun or a book on tape to listen to can be fun for the whole family. You can rent books on tape from the library and even download them to your IPODs for free. Kids can listen to and understand books beyond their reading level so its a great way to introduce something new.
Games, Games, Games: My family loves board games but they can be tricky in the car. But Super Duper Publications has some great games that are totally portable and perfect for the car. They are great for restaurants and keeping kids quiet at church too! My favorite part is they are educational and the kids don’t even notice because they think they are fun!!
I recently got three new ones that my kids really like. Their favorite is Understanding Sentences Fun Deck because it has a little remote that you use to light up the answer. Anything with buttons is fun!! The other games they are enjoying right now are Auditory memory for WH questions and Sentence Fill-In the Deck! They are all games that are good for Kindergarten to 6th grade.
Mad Libs: My kids love mad libs and they all can play together. Hours of laughter and entertainment for a couple of dollars!
Car Games: Remember all the games you used to play as a kid in the car way before T.V.? Guess what kids still love them you just have to introduce them! I found this car review that has 10 fun games to do in the car and they are perfect to introduce to kids of any age! Check out theses 10 road trip games.I promise you wont be disappointed!!
Activity Books: Never underestimate a new coloring book for an older kid either. Even my 11 year old loves a new coloring book! A word search or soduko book is another great alternative for kids who don’t like to color. All of these things can be picked up at the $1 store.
