Growing up I L.O.V.E.D goal making, but over the past 12 or so years of my marriage where I felt like my life fell out of my full control, I have found that I stopped my goal making. I have tried here and there, but never followed through. As it’s January and there are a lot of goal making ideas floating around wherever you look, I figure what a better time to start and to keep me accountable, I’m going to share them with you! So, thank you for reading this and giving me the added motivation. Here we go!
My Motto For the Year
To keep things simple I decided to go with a theme or more like a motto.
Last Sunday I had the opportunity to speak in front of my congregation at church. While searching for ideas to talk on I came across a fantastic article. I loved the base idea of it so much and it kept coming back to mind the whole week after read it, so I have decided it would be a great theme for me for the year. In fact, I’m using it for my family too, so expect to see more.
The article is called: Be A Real Action Hero. You should totally read it! 😉 The article talks about how you can build your faith in Christ (and I love that, for sure!), but I’m taking the idea to the next level and want to use it in more aspects of my life. (Note: the article uses examples/experiences from the scriptures. So, if you don’t relate to one character, read on to the next until you find one that resinates with you.)
My favorite quote is:
“You were sent here to be the action hero of your action-packed life! That doesn’t mean leaping from exploding buildings or driving escape cars every day. It means making choices, taking action, and pressing forward.”
So, this year, my goal is to be my own Real Action Hero!
How Am I going to take Action This Year
I have a 3 part plan on how I am going to be MY OWN Real Action Hero. I believe in simple, yet well rounded goals. I want to be able to improve myself mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually, so I have created goals that will effect me in all those areas. Right now, I have 3 parts to it. Once, I have mastered these three parts, then I’ll work on adding more goals. I feel like that if I can start mastering these areas of my life, I’ll be able to do more for me and my family. And lets be honest, I have wee kiddos to be taking care of and simplicity is key to be successful!
Part 1
The first part of my plan is to focus on my spiritual. Taking from the article above and my study/research for my talk at church. I’m going to work on increasing my Faith. I learned that in order to increase faith I need to do 4 things: pray, scripture study, obedience (also saw noted as worship) and service.
I am a mom. Some mornings I literally get out running to help one kiddo or another or its rare if I have 30 seconds straight of thought going on in my mind without a kiddo chiming in or asking a question. (It makes me laugh thinking about it, but that’s just the phase of life I’m in right now). So in order to take control of my morning and keep this simple/doable here is my plan…
Get it done ANY WAY possible and CELEBRATE that! Ha ha!
My main goal is personal morning/night prayer, some sort of scripture or spiritual growth study, look for opportunities to serve and get to church each Sunday. I am going to be kind to myself, so that means if I have to get my morning prayer in while driving on the way to drop my kids off at school, done! If I listen to scriptures on my phone (thank you modern day technology!) or a gospel article/magazine (also on audio), done! Text a positive message to a friend I am thinking about…service done! And try my best to get my whole family to church on time, and celebrate whatever time we actually get there. Mainly, I’m not going to beat myself up more about it or not doing it as well as I did when I was in college, etc. I’m just going to keep making the effort!
Part 2
Part 2 is to focus on my Physical self. I had a baby in March and I am ready to get my healthy body back. Shortly after I started my blog back in 2010, I met an awesome gal, Kristi who is a total body transformation expert (specifically for women), who created a program that must have been just what I needed for motivation and success. I loved it and lost a 23+ lbs and got back to my pre-baby weight. You can see/read my weight loss story here: My Weight Loss Journey.
I have since had 2 more babies and I am ready to get back in gear. My timing couldn’t be better with my goal setting because she just released her new program called Studio Shift and I couldn’t be more excited about it. It includes easy recipes and meal plans, workouts added weekly and streamed right to your favorite device (this is my favorite. They are only 15 minutes!), an accountability group and more.
Seriously, she has made it easy and I literally roll out of bed before any magic alarm clocks tell my kiddos I’m awake and get a workout in via my phone. I haven’t used any equipment, yet, but when I get to that point, she keeps the equipment minimal and doable. I think I have it all within my house already. Win!!
She has a $1 – 7 day trial if you want to test it out, too. I’d love to see friends over in the accountability group! Click here to get it: $1 Trial – Studio Shift Membership
Part 3
Part 3 will be my mental/emotional clean up. If you know me personally, you know I have been on an essential oil journey over the last few years and we have been using the oils to help with all the emotions (more on that another day, but you can follow my tips on instagram here). But, one thing that has been coming back to me over and over again is the need to be better organized and to find an easier way to clean quicker! We have moved a lot over the first 8 years of our marriage and I could count on a move to help cut the clutter and get rid of anything not necessary, especially since we were living in tiny places. Hello, 650 square feet for a family of 4!
This year we will be celebrating our 13th anniversary, we have 4 kids, 1 dog, live in 4x the space we did in apartment life and I need something simple! Finding something that will be easy AND realistic to help keep everything organized, clean and still fun will be amazing for me. My friend Hilary just released a course that I am more than excited to dive into.
The idea behind this course is that it is for REALISTIC organization. Doable stuff. This is not a course about perfection! And so far, all the reviewers went wild over it. Right now she has an early bird special you can grab that will give you the whole course as a PDF. Go check out The Organized Home Course HERE. I love Hilary’s sense of humor and can always count on catching a giggle on anything I read of hers. I am excited to be taking ACTION on this part of my life this year!
