It’s that time of year and most people are getting ready for family photos.
As a mom and a photographer the biggest issue I have experienced for my own family and in helping others is the “WHAT TO WEAR” part. Below are some wonderful tips and examples of clothing put together.
What Is Your Style?
I always feel if the photos are outdoors you want your colors to pop. You also want to think about your home decor and what you have hanging up, the colors and what your style is……
If you decorate with blues and browns and earth tones do you want bright red or green clothing on? Think about about what you will do with your photos after the session and where you will have your prints displayed.
Sometimes Less Is More
It’s about starting with the MOM and your favorite outfit. If mama ain’t happy no ones happy. So find YOUR outfit first, then work off the colors and styles from there. I promise this takes half the stress out!
Shoes
If your planning on wearing heels ladies, bring your flats to walk in awkward spots then slip them on right before the session.
Photo Shoot Success With Kids
If the kids need to get their last minute hair bow in, tie or white tee on before the photos, don’t worry that you aren’t fully dressed. Arrive early to the session to attend to those final touches.
Arrive Early
Always allow extra time for the uh-oh’s. If your photos are set for 5pm, tell your family you need to be there at 4:30pm. This will help easy the stress if you are prone to mix ups, late starters or if you are worried you may need more time for those outfit demands, especially for children.
What Looks Great In Photos
- Layers are great
- Scarfs
- Necklaces or bracelets/Accessories
- COLOR. {Don’t be stuck in the black or white/denim only era}
- Dark wash jeans
- Heels or Wedges
- Flowers or Headbands for hair your hair and the kids
- Belts
Extra Tips For You To Know Or Ask
- Have your session 1-2 hours around sunrise or sunset-{never take your photos in the middle of the day}
- Ask your photographer to shoot from above for more slimming photos
- Ask your photographer if you can bring props or if he/she has any props you can use for your session
- Take it off or put it on! If you have a sweater and you want to take a few shots with it, then with out it, do it! It will change the look of the photo!
- Find clothes that you feel good in, nothing too tight or stiff, it WILL show in the photos
- Layer, Textures and Patterns are OK!
Now you do not need all of the above to make a “perfect” photo. Keep it simple and natural as you want or bling it up if that’s your style!
Remember
Have fun and remember candids make the best photos and don’t forget mostly….. to bring your best SMILE and just enjoy it!
Enjoy!
